Fictional cars can be the best, specifically because they’re not real. They can be as wild as the person who created them imagines. From nuclear power to weapons systems they’re like concept cars if auto makers had any guts.
To an elder millennial like me the absolute greatest fictional car of all time is K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. Seeing that kind of tech in the late ’80s and early ’90s was crazy. Self-driving, turbo boost powerful enough to get it off the ground, the ability to drive on two wheels, weapon systems, it talked. K.I.T.T. had it all.
What made K.I.T.T. really great though was that it bridged the gap between fiction and reality. Some of the stuff that it didn’t seem too outlandish. Indeed, we have some very K.I.T.T-level tech on everyday cars today. Computers and AI systems that talk to us and retrieve information, navigation system, self driving capability. It’s amazing to think that the stuff that I would see K.I.T.T. do as a kid that would amaze me is on some of the most basic models available for sale today.
Now we ask you, with the multitude of media that we’ve had up to this point over the years, tell us which fictional car do you wish were real and why. There’s plenty to choose from and of course there’s no wrong answer.
